Theatrical Legend Chita Rivera, Says Good by at 91

Legendary icon Chita Rivera, prominently known for her role as Anita in the superhit movie of the 1957 Broadway cast of “West Side Story,” has left the world at the age of 91. As per the official statement made by her daughter, she died on Tuesday in New York after a long illness. 

Chita Rivera was honored with 10 Tony nominations and won two times in her career. She also achieved a special tony award for a lifetime achievement in theater in 2018.

She won awards for “Kiss of the Spider Woman and “The Rink”. Despite her busy stage schedule, she appeared in various TV shows and movies, including screen adaptations of “Chicago”, “Sweet Charity” as well as “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.”

Her most recent movie, “Tick, Tick… Boom!” was launched on Netflix in 2021, in which she appeared as a special actress among other stage musical luminaries.
